MY GOD, ITS FULL OF QUEERS.
The OUTer Gay and Lesbian Science Fiction / Fantasy Film Festival is a unique and exciting new festival located in Austin, Texas on the Planet Earth. Helping to “Keep Austin Weird” since 2004, OUTer's continuing mission is to enlighten, educate, enrich and entertain diverse communities about gays and lesbians in the genres of science fiction, fantasy and horror through the visual media and to expand its mission in the form of grants to filmmakers and organizations seeking to foster similar goals.
TELECOMMUNICATING ACROSS THE UNIVERSE
On November 4th, 2004, the first OUTer Film Festival was exhibited at the Hideout Theatre in Austin, Texas. Small and not very well attended, its success was it was no longer a dream, but it was a real festival. Like Science Fiction, OUTer was still hard to believe by most people, but the word slowly spread and when OUTer 2K5 came around, more people were taken where few queers have gone before. OUTer 2K5 audiences found that there were some really good films were out there. In 2006, the festival took a creative leap by offering new feature films and a wider variety of short films. For it's 2K7 festival, OUTer took a step back and offered an encore presentation of past films so that those who had missed previous festivals had the opporturnity to see "what was out there" This was to allow for a smooth transition to a spring festival date and to reinvent the festival.
WE ARE NOT ALONE
2007 was also a fantastic year for it was no longer alone in the Universe. With the creation of video websites and a co-operative effort with a gay and lesbian science fiction convention, OUTer has become a greater part of the federation of queer space cadets. We came in Peace and we will continue to boldly take you across the Universe.
OUTer's MISSION
